Environmental Planning
New native vegetation removal regulations came into play for Victoria in December 2013. Native vegetation consultants undertake assessments for low to high-risk applications which is the new 'simplified system'.
Native vegetation removal is now relating to the risk factor and the size of the clearing. All offsets will now be secured before a planning permit is issued. Offsets can be purchased over the counter through DEPI for a fee, or you can protect a part of your land under a conservation covenant (Section 69 of the Conservation, Forest and Lands Act 1987) through Trust For Nature or undertake an agreement with your local council (Section 173 of Planning and Environment Act 1987).
