PROJECT OVERVIEW

Glue Pot Road, Black Range.

The site is zoned Rural Conservation and has many large old growth scattered trees somewhere all the bark has been lost by stock attempting to find shade on hot summer days. The site had many incidents of rabbit scats and evidence of stock losses from fox. There were a few small patches of remnant vegetation, and these were at risk from stock ring barking the stems. The site needs the old growth trees protected to allow for recruitment and more shelterbelts and shad areas for stock.

Stock that is not provided with shelter will result in a reduction in quality and can lead to stock losses. The site has large open pasture with good cover but very limited pasture diversity. There is a need to place more paddocks where stock can be moved around on a constant basis to protect cover. The site is adjacent to a waterway and fencing these areas will assist in protecting trees in these areas and allow for regeneration. There are many ways to improve natural assets on farms and regeneration protects water quality, soils and brings in bird life that predate on insects.
